The Power of Storytelling: shaping your inner and outer narrative

Part One: The stories we tell ourselves – from Saboteur to Sage

We all live by the stories we tell ourselves. Some of these stories empower us: I am resourceful. I can figure things out. Others, however, are shaped by our inner saboteurs—those critical voices that create doubt, fear, and hesitation.

The Judge tells us we’re not good enough. The Pleaser whispers that we must put others first, even at our own expense. The Hyper-Achiever insists that success defines our worth. These voices distort reality, keeping us stuck in stress and self-doubt. But there is another voice within us—the Sage.

The Sage sees challenges as opportunities for growth. It replaces fear with curiosity, judgment with compassion, and urgency with trust. Instead of saying, I have to win this or I’ll fail, the Sage reminds us, I bring value regardless of the outcome. Instead of I’m stuck, the Sage invites us to ask, What possibilities haven’t I explored yet?

Mental Fitness Training helps us quiet the saboteurs and strengthen the Sage. When you step into your Sage perspective, you don’t just rewrite your story—you reclaim your power, and go from, I wish I was… to I am…

Part Two: The stories we tell others – crafting your Personal Brand

Every time we speak about ourselves—whether in an interview, a meeting, or a casual conversation—we are shaping our personal brand. Our brand isn’t just what we do; it’s how we show up, what we stand for, and the impact we create.

A strong personal brand is built on three key elements:

  • Strengths – What are you naturally great at? What do others consistently appreciate about you?
  • Values – What principles guide your decisions and actions? What matters most to you?
  • Passions – What excites and energises you? What work feels meaningful?

When you align your personal brand with these elements, your story becomes authentic and compelling. Instead of just listing achievements, you communicate who you are at your core.

Imagine introducing yourself not just as a project manager, but as a leader who excels at turning complex ideas into actionable plans, fosters collaboration to drive innovation, and is passionate about delivering solutions that create meaningful impact.

The story you tell others should reflect your truth—because when you own your narrative, the right opportunities and connections follow.

What’s the story you want to be known for?
